Otta is a sustainably made + packaged, nontoxic children’s molding clay.

We were tasked with building this children’s brand from the ground up, with naming, identity creation, creative execution, branded collateral development, packaging design, and website design.

NAMING

With one very intimidating children’s brand at the forefront of molding dough and clay, we needed a name that differentiated this creative medium from competitors. (You know the one–it rhymes with ‘hey yo’)

So, we focused on the natural aspect of the product in its original form: terracotta. But it’s a children’s brand, so it needed to be cute. Introducing, Otta.

SLOGAN or POSITIONING

We needed a slogan that spoke to the natural properties of the product, while emphasizing the boundless creativity it encouraged.

The result: naturally creative™ written in a fun, custom handwritten font.

LOGO DESIGN

We started by drawing several organic shapes, like what the clay would look like after being squeezed into a mound on a children’s art table.

We chose a blocky base font with rounded corners and molded it into each of the shapes, then chose the one that worked the best.

The process ended up being similar to how kids use the product themselves; organic, funky, and totally fun.

CHILDREN’S BRAND POSITIONING

In developing Otta’s brand positioning, we recognized the need for an identity that differentiated it within the children’s molding clay market. We positioned Otta as the only choice for eco-conscious parents, seeking a sustainable alternative to another throwaway activity for their kiddos.

We emphasized the brand’s commitment to the environment, conveying that Otta is not just molding clay; it’s an experience that fosters a deeper connection with nature.

Our creative process also revolved around inclusivity, ensuring every child feels empowered to express themselves without limitations. Mentioning the vibrant and colorful aspects of Otta clay was crucial, as it mirrors the palette of the natural world.

Not only is the brand design completely unique, it really embodies the fun and imagination that the company is excited to encourage.
